Santa Teresa de Avila Parish Church in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines

In what was once the center of Talisay City, the Santa Teresa de Avila Parish Church serves as a stark reminder that the poblacion was once the center of governance in the locality that is Talisay City in southern Metro Cebu before the new Talisay City Hall was relocated to Lawaan III.

Temple of Leah: An Attempt At Classic Architecture

When some of my kins visited Cebu in November 2015, they wanted to visit the Temple of Leah. I accompanied them to the place in Busay. Temple of Leah is nearby Lantaw Native Restaurant Busay, Mountainview Nature Park, and Roosevelt Hideaway Resort.

Kamampay Public Beach in Cordova, Cebu, Philippines

Cebu is known for its white sand beaches. Not all beaches in Cebu, however, are of the fine grain, white sand variety. Cordova town's Kamampay Public Beach is one such example.

Picturesque Kamampay Beach

Unlike most beaches in Cebu, you don't come to Kamampay Public Beach to enjoy bathing in the water. The limestone coast at Kamampay Beach means that the waters are kind of murky because of the mud formed from limestone soaked in seawater. You come to Kamampay Public Beach to enjoy the vista of the rocky beach scenery and of mangroves seen on the horizon off its coast.

Buagsong: Bakasi Capital of Cordova

The barangay of Buagsong is one of two (2) barangays considered as the eel or bakasi capital of the town of Cordova, the other one being the barangay Day-as. A common livelihood of the residents of barangay Buagsong is gathering eels and there is a small port for bancas of fisherfolk who live in the village. These catch are then sold to restaurants or carenderias that serve up dishes of eel recipes, the most popular of which are nilarang na bakasi and piniritong bakasi. One popular restaurant that serve up these dishes is Lantaw Native Restaurant which has a branch at the boardwalk in barangay Day-as. Many of the stores along Kamampay Public Beach serve these dishes as well.

Activities at the Kamampay Public Beach

Common tourist activities at Kamampay Public Beach are simple sightseeing, photo shoots, enjoying the food, singing at the few videoke joints in the area, enjoying a boat ride on a banca, and simply enjoying the fresh air. Most tourists who come to the place are locals from other parts of Metro Cebu who just want a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The public beach is not very well-developed in terms of infrastructure.

Treat Your Sweet Tooth at Purple Craves' Dessert Buffet

Calling the attention of all those with a massive sweet tooth out there in Cebu! This one is for you. How does a PhP 143 per person dessert buffet with all you can drink bottomless iced tea sound to you? No, this is not a rhetorical question. What I'm talking about actually exists for real, happening every Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Purple Craves Cafe at the ground floor of the Cebu Century Plaza Hotel along Juana Osmeña Street, barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, Philippines.

Spellbound at Gayuma ni Maria Restaurant

On an otherwise boring street in midtown Cebu City, the colorful flowery detail at a small nook catches my attention. A flower shop! That's what I thought. But a flower shop it is not. Gayuma ni Maria is a full service restaurant themed as a fun dating place with not just a subtle hint of naughty. As mystifying as its external appearance, the food itself at Gayuma ni Maria is mesmerizing.

Cebu Blogging Summit 2015: Bloggers as Thought Leaders and Opinion Makers

Blogging has come of age. As we move forward into the digital age, bloggers will no longer be seen merely as individuals struggling to create influence in their own online sphere. Collectively, bloggers are now able to shape the world we live in.

After months of anticipation, I have finally dined at the Yakimix Smokeless Grill and Japanese Restaurant at the Capitol Square along Escario Street, barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City, Philippines. It wasn't the best experience, but there were some good points nonetheless. I honestly do not understand the hype and the buzz about this new eat and drink all you can restaurant in Cebu City now that I have tried it. I think they over-hyped this too much that it can disappoint.

Moalboal Beach Resort: Hale Manna Beach Resort and Coastal Gardens

Moalboal is a prime beach destination in the southern part of Cebu. It's most popular beaches are Bas Diot or White Beach in barangay Saavedra and Panagsama Beach in barangay Basdiot. Both have been promoted as recreational diving sites and awesome beach destinations. The drawback of this aggressive promotion is that sometimes, there is too little privacy to offer in these public beaches. There are a few resorts in the area that does offer some quiet space for its guests, away from where most of the noise is but not too far away from where one can enjoy the natural beauty of Moalboal's beaches. One such resort is the Hale Manna Beach Resort and Coastal Gardens in Bas Daku, Saavedra, Moalboal, Cebu, Philippines. I recently visited Hale Manna as I was tasked to facilitate a 2-day team building program for thirteen staff members of Oceana Philippines last 12-13 November 2015. Cebu Teambuilding Services affiliate Philipp Chen Tan accompanied me during that trip.

Why Do I Blog At Wonderful Cebu

It is the 30th day of October 2015, and it is the final day of the 30-day blog posting challenge organized by the Cebu Blogging Community that the Wonderful Cebu blog joined. 30 days, and I have more than 30 posts published this month, the most I have ever done for any of my blogs in the span of one month. It was definitely an amazing ride the past 30 days. In this Day 30 post, I will be answering three (3) questions: Why do I blog? What is in blogging? What keeps me blogging? Answers to these three questions also specifies the vision and direction of the Wonderful Cebu blog.

30-day blog posting challenge

Why Do I Blog?

I blog to inform the world about the beauty of Cebu. It is my vision to make the Wonderful Cebu blog a reliable source of information about Cebu. The long term goal is to complete the directories of hotels and resorts in Cebu, bars, cafes, and restaurants in Cebu, transportation guide of Cebu, celebrations in Cebu, and places of interest and things to do in Cebu.

What is in blogging?

Blogging through Google's platform helps me towards achieving my vision for the Wonderful Cebu blog in a very cost-efficient and cost-effective manner blogging about Cebu without going beyond my means.

What Keeps me blogging?

The fact that less than ten (10%) percent of all the directories I have created for the Wonderful Cebu blog are complete is fuel enough to motivate me to keep on blogging about Cebu. And for sure, Cebu's landscape will continue to change over the years and there will always be new things to blog about.

Gratis

Several people, brands, and communities have been beneficial for the milestones and successes that the Wonderful Cebu blog has achieved this past month. I would like to thank them.

Cebu Blogging Community

I would like to thank the Cebu Blogging Community for this past month's 30-day blog posting challenge. More than that, the events I attended that were coursed through CBC helped a lot in populating this blog with relevant posts.

Bjornson Bernales

Thank you to Bjorn for gamely administering the 30-day blogging challenge. You motivated me to start this challenge and although I may have fallen short by a day because of technical issues in internet connectivity, I am still thankful for allowing me to participate in the challenge and create quality content over the past 30 days.

Game Masters

Thank you to Carlo and Romeo for stepping up to the plate and creating parallel challenges for the other participants during the past 30 days. Your inputs added some spice into the challenge.

30-day Blog Posting Challenge Participants

I am also thanking the 30-day blogging participants, particularly those who have completed the 30-day challenge and earned the golden badge. Your determination to finish the challenge also motivated me enough to continue on each day.

Partners

Big thank you goes the way of Cebu Domain, Kalami Cebu, Channel Marie, Zuprome, Philippine Information Agency, and iNewMedia for partnering with CBC and making the 30-day blog posting challenge rock.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches and Waterfalls

Beaches always get in the conversation when people talk about Cebu. True enough, there are beautiful beaches in Cebu. While the most popular beaches mentioned are the ones in Mactan Island due to it's proximity to the urban center, more beautiful beaches can actually be found farther away from the metropolis. Of course, there is the popular Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island in the north. Camotes Island too is quite talked about. Down south, there are a number of beaches worth mentioning as well. The best thing about this is that the best spots in Cebu south beaches are public beaches that charge little or no fees so the weary soul can truly relax without breaking the bank.

Did you know too, that Cebu is home to more than ninety (90) waterfalls? Yes, you read that right. Cebu has more than 90 waterfalls, maybe even over a hundred. Pinoy Travel Freak actually made a comprehensive list of 90 amazing waterfalls in Cebu

We chronicled these best spots in Cebu south beaches and waterfalls so read along to find out about the natural beauty of southern Cebu.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: Tingko Beach, Alcoy

A popular public beach in the south is Tingko Beach in Alcoy town. In recent years, many resorts have mushroomed in the area owing to it being a popular weekend getaway. What's great about Tingko is one can enjoy it for a very minimal entrance fee of PhP 10. It is also very accessible being a stone's throw away from the national highway where public utility buses from the city going south pass through. Off the Tingko Beach coast is Mabad-on Reef where abundant marine life thrive. Small boats offer rides to the reef for PhP 25 per person. Sadly, because the beach is too public, garbage is slowly becoming a major problem.

Fellow CBC-affiliated blogger Rea Remigio Alducente of Blissful Snapshots blogged about Voda Krasna Beach Resort on Tingko Beach

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: Lambug Beach, Badian

Badian is more known for Kawasan Falls, arguably the most popular waterfalls in Cebu, and beautiful Zaragoza or Badian Island. But it's public beach in Lambug is also slowly gaining popularity to beach goers.

Read about the Lambug Public Beach in Badian from Where is Cebu.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: White Beach, Moalboal

Another popular public beach hangout in the south of Cebu is Moalboal's White Beach at barangay Saavedra (more popularly known as Basdaku). The beach is home to many resorts and dive shops as the area is also known as a popular diving site. Like most popular public beaches, there has been some concern about improper waste disposal in the area.

Read about Moalboal's White Beach from mycebu.ph.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: Sumilon Island, Oslob

The town of Oslob in the southeastern part of Cebu province is popular for it's whale shark interaction and Tumalog Falls. Equally popular is Sumilon Island. The island's shifting sandbar tickles the fancy of many tourists visiting Oslob. The fee to enjoy this white sand wonder is a mere PhP 10, although one has to rent a pumpboat (for a different price) to get there too. For those with a bigger budget, they may also choose to enjoy what the island's private resort has to offer.

From fellow CBC-affiliated bloggers Gian Carlo Jubela and Sheila Mei Abellanoza, read about their adventures at the Sumilon Island Bluewater Resort.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: Hermit's Cove, Aloguinsan

Aloguinsan is probably the most remote town in Cebu. That is probably good as it has preserved such great natural spots like the Hermit's Cove in barangay Kantabugon. There are no commercial resorts in the area and a people's organization manages tourism-related activities within the quiet fishing village. The beach does not boast of fine-grain white sand as the sand is a mixture of crushed seashells, small pebbles, and dead coral that feels ticklish to the bare foot. This is paradise though for those who wish to get away from the routine of the daily grind. Quiet, stress-free, relaxing.

Best Spots in Cebu South Beaches: Campolabo Sandbar, Pinamungajan

Probably the least known of this list of the best spots in Cebu south beaches is Campolabo islet in the town of Pinamungajan. While Pinamungajan's wave pool resort is getting mentioned a lot in conversations lately, I'm pretty sure a lot of people can also appreciate the white sand at Campolabo islet, a sandbar that disappears with high tide. Adjacent to it is the Paril rock formation formed out of a typhoon in the past. The area is also a protected marine sanctuary and you can find abundant marine life even at ankle-deep waters.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Mantayupan Falls, Barili

Mantayupan Falls in Barili is not the most beautiful of waterfalls in Cebu. One interesting fact though is that it has the tallest drop among all waterfalls in the entire province. The water drop at Mantayupan Falls is 98 meters or more than 321 feet. It's small hydroelectric plant also generates some power for Cebu.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Kawasan Falls, Badian

Simply the most popular waterfalls in the entire Cebu province is the Kawasan Falls in Badian. Sadly though, wanton over-commercialization in the area has degraded its appeal over the years. Check out it's three levels of waterfalls, swim in the refreshing waters in its pool, or ride a raft to get to the water drop in the two (2) lower levels.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Canlaub Falls, Alegria

It is amazing how commercial businesses seem to take no interest in the area around Canlaub Falls in Alegria town. I do personally hope it stays that way though as I enjoy the natural virgin and unspoiled beauty of this natural wonder. It is so remote that there is even a scarcity of blog posts about it.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Inambakan Falls, Ginatilan

The more popular of three (3) waterfalls in the town of Ginatilan is Inambakan Falls. The other two (2) are Kampael Falls and Bugnawan Falls. The catch basin is not that wide and is 8 feet at its deepest. Inambakan Falls, Kampael Falls, and Bugnawan Falls in Ginatilan town is chronicled by Mike Laagan and Otazu at The Traveling Panda.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Aguinid Falls, Samboan

Fast becoming popular among adventure seekers is the waterfall tour at Aguinid Falls in Samboan town. The tour allows visiting tourists to traverse through the waterfalls, wading through its pool, gripping through rock creases to get from one side of the waterfall to the other, and exploring the entire majestic wonder of Aguinid.

Best Spots in Cebu South Waterfalls: Tumalog Falls, Oslob

Aside from whale shark interaction at barangay Tanawan and Sumilon Island, Oslob's other popular attraction is the Tumalog Falls. It's awe-inspiring beauty is among the more eye-pleasing waterfalls in Cebu. Yet, sadly, Tumalog Falls have been controversial because of littering problems around the area directly surrounding it.

Staying Positive in Cebu, Philippines

Maybe you've heard it on the radio, with your best friend singing along. Maybe you've heard it being played in your office. Or maybe you've seen it being shared on Facebook. It's one of the most famous #hugot Vispop songs today. HAHAHAHasula is a song sung by Kurt Fick and composed by Ronald Ucat (aka Medyo Maldito) and Jude Gitamondoc that has a sweet melody, but is all about being brokenhearted.

Stay positive!
