Santa Teresa de Avila Parish Church in Talisay City

In what was once the center of Talisay City, the Santa Teresa de Avila Parish Church serves as a stark reminder that the poblacion was once the center of governance in Talisay City before the new city hall was relocated to Lawaan III.

Reminiscent of Spanish-era town centers, the poblacion of the then municipality of Talisay was where the main Roman Catholic Church was located. The town hall and other important offices of the locality were also found in the area. Shortly after it became a city, the seat of government of Talisay City was transferred. The new city hall is now located in Lawa-an III along the Cebu South Coastal Road. Despite that, the old poblacion retains its significance. Many churchgoers still go to hear mass on Sundays and religious holy days at the Santa Teresa de Avila Church.

Temple of Leah: An Attempt At Classic Architecture

When some of my kin visited Cebu in November 2015, they wanted to visit the Temple of Leah. I accompanied them to the place in Barangay Busay. It is located nearby the Lantaw Native Restaurant Busay, the Mountainview Nature Park, and the Roosevelt Hideaway Resort. Does the building look familiar to you? Have you kind of seen this somewhere? That's because its is built as a copy of the Parthenon in Greece.

An Attempt at Classic Architecture

The Temple of Leah is an attempt at classic architecture, specially Greek and Roman. It has similarities with American colonial era buildings that heavily utilize piers and columns with Greek and Roman elements such as the Aduana Building, the Cebu Provincial Capitol, the Compania Maritima Building, and the old BPI building.

Kamampay Public Beach in Cordova, Cebu, Philippines

Cebu is known for its white sand beaches. Not all beaches in Cebu, however, are of the fine grain, white sand variety. Cordova's Kamampay Public Beach is one such example.

Picturesque Kamampay Beach

Unlike most beaches in Cebu, you don't come to Kamampay Public Beach to enjoy bathing in the water. You don't come to marvel at it's white sands. The limestone coast at Kamampay Beach means that the waters are kind of murky. Mud is formed from limestone soaked in seawater. You come to Kamampay Public Beach to enjoy the vista of the rocky beach scenery. You also enjoy the sight of mangroves seen on the horizon off its coast.

Kamampay Public Beach

According to a poster at Kamampay Beach, it has it's own value. The value of the place is economic, social, aesthetic, and socio-cultural. The economic value is because it provides for livelihood of the residents. Tourism potential accounts for the socio-cultural value. As a place where locals gather, it has social value. Being a tourist spot being promoted, the local government is banking on it's uncommon aesthetic.

Buagsong: Bakasi Capital of Cordova

The barangay of Buagsong is one of two barangays considered as the eel or bakasi capital of Cordova. The other one is barangay Day-as. A common livelihood of the residents of barangay Buagsong is gathering eels. There is a small port for bancas of fisherfolk who live in the village. These catch are then sold to restaurants or carenderias that serve up dishes of eel recipes. The most popular eel recipes are nilarang na bakasi and piniritong bakasi. One popular restaurant that serve up these dishes is Lantaw Native Restaurant. Lantaw has a branch at the boardwalk in barangay Day-as. Many of the stores along Kamampay Public Beach serve these dishes as well.

Purple Craves' Dessert Buffet: A Treat for Your Sweet Tooth

Calling the attention of all those with a massive sweet tooth out there in Cebu! This one is for you. How does a PhP 143 per person dessert buffet sound to you? All you can drink bottomless iced tea is already included in the price. No, this is not a rhetorical question. What I'm talking about actually exists for real. It happens every Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Purple Craves Cafe. The cafe is located at the ground floor of the Century Plaza Hotel along Juana Osmeña Street in Cebu City.

I had the chance to partake in the Purple Craves dessert buffet. This was during the recent Cebu Blogging Summit 2.0. The event was held at the Century Plaza Hotel last 12 December 2015. Along with media professionals and volunteers, we were treated to an all you can eat buffet of the sweet creations at Purple Craves Cafe. And oh boy! What a real treat it was.

Purple Craves Dessert Buffet Menu

So what did we get to enjoy at the Purple Craves dessert buffet? Of course there was bottomless iced tea. I love iced tea so much and I drank several glasses. There were fruits such as watermelons, pineapples, and mangoes. I knew these would make me feel full right away so I stayed away from it.

Chicken Deli Bacolod Restaurant Opens 1st Branch in Cebu

From its humble beginnings in 1983, Chicken Deli Bacolod restaurant has now opened its 22nd branch. Their newest store is at the Robinson's Galleria Cebu, it's first ever restaurant in Cebu. Being a Bacolod restaurant, Chicken Deli will of course offer Bacolod's famous chicken inasal. More than chicken inasal however, there is a lot more Chicken Deli can offer to the Cebuanos' selective and discriminating palate.

It started as a hole in the wall place along Bacolod City's Lacson Avenue by the then 29-year old widow Mamang Lourdes. Chicken Deli Bacolod restaurant has expanded its menu from simply serving chicken inasal and pork barbecue to now include many Pinoy favorites such as kare-kare, sinigang, halo-halo, and more.

Cebu Branch Now Open!

Along with my fellow bloggers from the Cebu Blogging Community, we were invited to witness the store blessing and pre-opening event of Chicken Deli's Cebu branch at Robinsons Galleria Cebu last 9 December 2015. During the event, we got to sample the menu at Chicken Deli.

Gayuma ni Maria Restaurant: Romantic With a Hint of Naughty

On an otherwise boring street in midtown Cebu City, the colorful flowery detail at a small nook catches my attention. A flower shop! That's what I thought. But a flower shop it is not.

Gayuma ni Maria
is a full service restaurant themed as a fun dating place with not just a subtle hint of naughty. As mystifying as its external appearance, the food itself at Gayuma ni Maria is mesmerizing.

Wasted Chef: Unlimited Shawarma, Burger, Pizza, and Pasta

Are you a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, Greek food, and Italian favorites? Wasted Chef Restaurant just opened up along Gorordo Avenue across the Asilo dela Milagrosa Church in Cebu City. The house specialties are the Greek pita burger, shawarma, a couple of pasta dishes, and a couple more pizza varieties.

Wasted Chef

Wasted Chef is owned by Powerspoonz band's resident drummer Ian Sekong and his skater boy friends. Wasted Chef was not their original plan. They would have wanted to open a seafood buffet restaurant. When they were still looking for a suitable location for their project, the space across the Asilo dela Milagrosa became available. It was in the same business complex where Ian's Azul Tuslob Buwa venture was also located. It was however not suitable for a seafood buffet place. So they tweaked their plans and came up with the concept of offering a buffet for Mediterranean, Greek, and Italian food. This was also something new in Cebu.

Shabu-Way Restaurant: Eating Shabu-Shabu the Right Way

I recently got invited to sample the menu at Shabu Way Restaurant at the Ayala Terraces together with some of my blogger pals from the Cebu Blogging Community.

Together, we enjoyed learning the technical stuff about how to eat shabu-shabu the right way. We now better appreciate this part of Japanese cuisine.

Yakimix: Japanese Restaurant Offers Eat All You Can Buffet

After months of anticipation, I have finally dined at the Yakimix Smokeless Grill and Japanese Restaurant at the Capitol Square. Yakimix is located along Escario Street, Cebu City. It wasn't the best experience, but there were some good points nonetheless. I honestly do not understand the hype and the buzz about this new eat and drink all you can restaurant in Cebu City now that I have tried it. I think they over-hyped this too much that it can disappoint.

Problem Number 1 at Yakimix: Parking Space

My brother and I went to eat lunch at Yakimix on a Monday and the place was packed. This made it harder for us to find a good parking space. And the restaurant staff did not help us at all with that issue. All they said that there was a security guard assigned for it but we never found him. We had to cross the street and park at the Escario Central Mall.

The Food and Drinks

Sushi and Tempura

The sushi and tempura station is where Yakimix gets it quite right but not really extraordinary. They are a sushi restaurant for crying out loud! I devoured a fair amount of sushi and rolls that had salmon or shrimp on it. It's a Japanese restaurant, it better get this right. Then again, I've tried a lot of better sushi somewhere else.
